The 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is nearly here, and one of the yachts expected to be making her debut is the NISI GTX50. She’s a combination of monohull and multihull technology that is promising some unusual features for her size range. Hulls 1 through 3 are already sold, with Hull No. 4 available for delivery in spring 2015.

Here are three things about the GTX50 that we can’t wait to see:

• Serious headroom. NISI tells us it exceeds 7 feet 2 inches in at least some of the interior spaces. We’re bringing our favorite basketball-playing friends for a look.

• Pod-drive propulsion. We’ve seen how great it can be on monohull motoryachts, and we’re interested to find out how it feels on a multihull design.

• Major fuel efficiency. NISI says early sea trials put the GTX50’s fuel consumption at 40 percent less than similar-size yachts. We are keen to verify that claim out on the water.
