Government officials in Charleston, South Carolina, have agreed to consider lowering the property taxes placed on yachts.

The proposal put forth aims at lowering the county tax rate from 10.5 percent to 6 percent.

Local marinas in Charleston have been urging the passing of this proposal for years. Many marina owners feel that they are losing a huge portion of their business because clients are taking their yachts to Florida where there is no tax on boats.

The proposal will be discussed at the July meeting of council members.
