Modern Ark
Nearly 4,000 years after Noah built the ark, Dutch boat builder Johan Huibers decided to follow in his footsteps and build one of his own, using much of the original GA plan (readers may recall that the building of this ark was discussed in November’s Tell Tales column). Spanning an impressive 20,000 square meters, the ark, which took four years to build, has recently received the official government permits that allows Huibers to open his ship’s massive doors to 3,000 visitors per day.
Available for weddings and children’s parties alike, guests will behold myriad animals both real and fake, which complete the biblical illusion. Wanting to put his own spin on ahem, classic, Huibers has added a restaurant to the ship’s upper level, which offers a panoramic view over the Merwede River in the Dutch city of Dordrecht where she is moored. This European attraction is shaping up to be the perfect rainy day or rainy decade activity.
