A small fishing boat called The Glory Light that washed out to sea during the 2011 tsunami in Japan turned up earlier this year on a small island in British Columbia, Canada—prompting the finders to travel halfway around the world and meet the original owners.

“When we found the boat, [for] some reason I … had this feeling that I am meant to come here and see this for some reason,” Jeanne Beaver told CBC News about her trip to Japan. “There is a reason the boat came to our place.”

The original owners used The Glory Light for fishing and harvesting seaweed. They have had to move to a small, temporary home in the wake of the tsunami disaster.

Beaver and her husband plan to repair and restore the boat as a tribute. They feel that not just a boat, but a piece of history washed up near their floating cabin on Borrowman Bay.
