The new Magellano 50 from Azimut Yachts (shown right) made her debut at the Genoa International Boat Show in October. Designed with an eye on the environment, the Magellano 50 offers Azimut’s Easy Hybrid drive system. The Magellano 50’s twin 425-horsepower Cummins common rail diesels give her a top speed of 22 knots, with a cruising speed between 18 and 19 knots (according to the company). But, if you don’t want to burn your fuel, the optional Easy Hybrid drive system allows for the vessel to be propelled by two 20 kW electric motors, that can provide an eco-friendly cruising speed of 8 knots. Also, when the electric motors are engaged, the sound level during operation drops approximately 80 percent (according to the builder).
The Magellano 50 is highly customizable belowdecks for a vessel this size, with four possible interior layout options awaiting potential owners. In the area between the amidships master cabin and the larger stateroom in the bow, owners can choose from a studio and guest cabin layout, a studio and second dinette layout, a second dinette and guest cabin layout, or a studio with a separate utility area that can be designed for a washer, dryer and extra stowage. Cabo Yachts debuted their 44 Hardtop Express at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October. Greeted with cheers from the crowd (and a mid-day shot of tequila) the 44 Hardtop Express features an integrated hardtop not seen on Cabo’s previous builds that provides better shelter from the weather and improved lines of sight from the helm. The option of adding a second stateroom or an angler’s room, which provides either private sleeping quarters away from the master stateroom or additional stowage for rods, reels and supplies while fishing offshore is what makes the 44 Hardtop Express stand out.
Like all Cabo Yachts, the 44 Hardtop Express was built to be fished — with fish boxes, a tackle center, and bait well in the transom all part of the standard package. A new mezzanine seating arrangement allows spectators to watch the action of the catch in comfort. The 44 Hardtop Express comes with several engine options, including twin 715-horsepower Cummins QSM-11 diesels, twin 800-horsepower MAN R6-800CRM diesels, and twin 1,015- or 1,150-horsepower CAT C18 diesels. MJM Yachts has released their new 36Z. Available in either a Down East style or an Express style (with solid glass on the pilothouse sides) the 36Z is well suited for over-night cruising with couples or day cruising with family and friends. The forward island berth (6-feet, six-inches long and with a 6-inch thick memory foam mattress) provides owners with comfortable rest under a little more than 6 feet of headroom. The salon features seating for four to six people around bolstered Ultraleather settees that convert from a twin berth arrangement to a large double berth. The all-weather pilothouse has 6-feet, 6-inches of headroom and can comfortably fit six guests. The cockpit, on the same level, offers room for another six guests, making the 36z great for entertaining.
Three power options are offered, including twin 170-horsepower Volvo Penta 5-cylinder D3 diesels, twin 220-horsepower Volvo Penta 5-cylinder D3 diesels, and twin 400-horsepower Volvo Penta 5-cylinder D4 diesels (providing top speeds of 29 knots, 34 knots, and 38 knots respectively, according to the builder).
