Volvo Penta has announced an agreement to acquire Seven Marine, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based manufacturer of high-performance gasoline outboards, including the most powerful outboard models in the world, running at 557 and 627 horsepower.

“With this acquisition, Volvo Penta is entering the outboard motor segment,” Volvo Penta President Björn Ingemanson stated in a press release. “With Seven Marine, we are on a journey to expand the scope of supply with our customers and invest in the growth of a platform to shape the future of the outboard industry.”

The deal will not only see Volvo Penta working to bring new outboard options to the marine market under the Seven Marine brand, but also will expand the reach of Volvo Penta’s service network to boaters with outboard engines.

What the companies have in common: Use of automotive technology. Volvo Penta uses the technology in its diesel and gasoline engines, while Seven Marine uses it in outboard design architecture and more.
