Vesper Marine has announced a software update that it says brings groundbreaking features to new and existing users of its XB-8000 Class B AIS.

With the software update, the unit can now connect to a buzzer that creates an audible alarm for Man Overboard (MOB), Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) and EPIRB features.

The unit also now becomes the first AIS transponder with an Anchor Watch feature that can be used to set up and monitor a geofence via a WatchMate app on Android and Apple mobile devices, according to Vesper Marine.

“We designed the XB-8000 as a platform with an ecosystem of features that is capable of constant evolution, adapting to new technologies and the ever-changing needs of boaters,” Vesper Marine CEO Jeff Robbins stated in a press release. “Man Overboard and Anchor Watch alarms are groundbreaking new safety features for an AIS transponder. In the past, a compatible MFD also had to be powered on and configured properly to activate an AIS MOB or Anchor Watch alarm.”

In other words: Tenders that have no multifunction display, but that do have the XB-8000 AIS, can have man overboard and geofence technology at the ready.

Also new with the software update: The XB-8000’s instant target acquisition has been enhanced, providing real-time AIS target data immediately to the WatchMate app.
