Newport Shipyard in Rhode Island just took delivery of a new 500-metric-ton Travelift, which was built in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and shipped cross-country by 17 tractor-trailer trucks.
The new Travelift will replace the shipyard’s 300-ton version, which was no longer big enough to service the bigger and bigger yachts now plying the world’s waters.
“This new lift gives us the ability to haul out larger yachts and attract more business to Rhode Island,” dockmaster Eli Dana stated in a press release. “As both power yachts and large sailing vessels continue to grow, the need for a larger lift has become necessary.”
