Hakvoort YN248

A 200-footer is now on the order books at Hakvoort Shipyard, marking the largest contract in the Dutch yard’s 83-year history.

For now, Hakvoort is referring to the project only by her hull number, which is YN248. Styling and interior design are by Sinot Yacht Design, while naval architecture and engineering are from Diana Yacht Design.

Besides traditional features, like a mix of indoor and alfresco relaxation and dining spaces, YN248 will have some unusual ones. Most notable: All five guest staterooms will be on the main deck. Another highlight is the dedication of much of the deck above to the owner. The suite will include a study and his and her heads. The owner’s sleeping area will be fully forward, ringed by windows for enjoying the view day or night.

The owner, and of course all guests, will get use of a pool on the sundeck plus a hammam, massage room, and steam shower on the lower deck.

A crew of eight, plus a captain, will also be housed aboard. When the yacht ventures to an area where a pilot needs to direct her travels, an extra stateroom in the crew area will come in handy. That same cabin can alternately house a nanny or massage therapist.

YN248 comes at a good time for Hakvoort. It just completed a shipyard expansion to build yachts to 213 feet. While other Dutch builders also invested in their facilities in recent years, many of them are pursuing far larger megayacht projects. Hakvoort realized this meant fewer builders targeting yachts from just under 100 feet LOA to just over 200 feet LOA. It therefore determined it could fill the gap.
