The music scene is Northern New England is strong to begin with, but once the region has settled into summer there are also numerous locally staged musicals added to the mix. Portsmouth boasts three major venues.
The Prescott Park Arts Festival, with lawn seating will host a series of food and musical events, all within earshot of the park's public docks. This year the musical "Peter Pan" will be performed June 25 through August 22. www.prescottpark.org
The Seacoast Repertory Theatre on Bow Street will stage the musical "Rent" June 18 to July 18 and "All Shook Up" July 30 to August 29. www.seacoastrep.org
So far, acts booked at the Portsmouth Music Hall include concerts by Herbie Hancock and the Afro-Cuban All Stars, both in June. www.themusichall.org
