KVH Industries recently shipped its 5,000th TracPhone satellite communications antenna system for the mini-VSAT Broadband network.

During the past year alone, the company has added more than 1,000 units among vessels needing VSAT service, including yachts, tankers, container ships, fishing fleets, government patrol cutters and more.

“When we entered the market, accessing the internet at sea was ridiculously expensive, either due to extremely high airtime rates or the need for complex, expensive onboard equipment that was difficult to install and maintain,” CEO Martin Kits van Heyningen stated in a press release. “Our goal was to win a leadership position through market disruption, changing the way mariners thought about satellite communications by offering small, simple, easy-to-install equipment, fast data speeds and low airtime costs.”

KVH markets itself as the only company that designs and manufactures its own onboard system, and operates its own network, for a fully integrated product. Its advanced TracPhone antenna systems include the V11-IP, the V7-IP and the V3-IP. All three come with an Integrated CommBox Modem unit that replaces racks of components.
