The Long Rangers
Everywhere we look these days, we're seeing trawlers and long-distance cruisers. It seems that an ever-growing number of us are fascinated with the idea of the extended trip, and not just as a fantasy-because with today's models, cruising for distance is well within the realm of possibility. Newer models offer fuel efficiency plus the potential for speed when the weather worsens or the marina beckons, and provide ruggedness for those times when you do get caught out. They also give us the amenities, stability and comfort to make voyages of discovery.
KROGEN EXPRESS 52
Like most semi-custom yachts, the Krogen Express 52 benefits from occasional fine-tuning, those small changes combining the suggestions of owners, dealers and the builder to make life afloat more comfortable. For 2007, there are two major changes. First, the 52 will be powered with a pair of electronically controlled, 480 hp Yanmar 6LY3A-ETP diesels that offer increased cruising and top speeds while keeping the efficiencies of the earlier 440 hp Yanmar 6LY2A-STP engines. Second, the redesigned flying bridge provides more comfort at the upper station, with a new console providing more room for electronics. The first hull is already undergoing sea trials, and the builders report that its ride and handling remain true to the nature of the semi-displacement hull James Krogen envisioned.
